KEP ITALIA SIZE GUIDE

Find the perfect size for your new KEP Italia helmet

ABOUT YOUR SIZE

KEP Italia produces helmets with the outer shell available in two different sizes, M or L. The medium outer shell can be fitted with eight different sizes, from 51 to 58, whilst the large shell holds sizes 59 to 62.

But the right size of helmet is not enough; it must also suit the shape of the rider’s head.

Indeed, it is possible to insert small separators into the helmet to adapt it to fit the head of the rider (that can be oval, round or egg-shaped) perfectly and can be inserted at the front, back or on the sides of the inside of the helmet. For this reason, KEP Italia has created twin linings for round oval heads (typical in Europe) and twelve linings for oval narrow heads (typical of North America and Canada).

Step 1 of 5
Prepare your tools
A soft measuring tape is all you need.
51–62 cm soft tailor's tape or cord + ruler

Use a soft, flexible measuring tape. No tape measure? Use a piece of string or cord and measure it against a ruler afterwards.

Any soft, flexible tape works. Avoid rigid metal rulers.
Step 2 of 5
Position the tape
2–2.5 cm above the eyebrows and ears.
2–2.5 cm above eyebrows ears widest circumference of the head
Long hair? Tie it up as you would while riding - ponytail or bun - before measuring.
Step 3 of 5
Measure and note
Snug, not tight. Repeat 2–3 times.
57 cm note your exact measurement

Write down your measurement in centimeters. Note the exact number, you'll use it to find your size in the next step.

Step 4 of 5
Find your size
Two shells, twelve liner sizes.

Large shell - 59 to 62 cm

KEP helmets run slightly large. When in doubt, size down. Between two sizes? Pick the smaller one first and try it on.

Your liner size determines the exact fit within the shell. Liners can be swapped, no need for a new helmet if your fit needs adjusting.

Step 5 of 5
Check the fit
Fasten the strap and gently shake your head. It should stay firmly in place.
Too small
Feels tight, causes pressure - may not protect correctly
Too big
Shifts during a fall, reducing protection
Oval liner
Standard fit for most European head shapes
Oval narrow liner
For North American and Asian head profiles

KEP Italia Sizing System

How the KEP shell and liner system works, how to measure your head size and how to find the right fit.

Two shell sizes, one smart system

KEP Italia uses just two outer shell sizes. The precise fit is achieved by selecting the right inner liner - not by buying a different helmet for every head size. This makes the system flexible, practical and cost-effective over time.

Shell Liner sizes Notes
Medium Shell (M) 51 - 58 Fits the full range of liner types where available per model.
Large Shell (L) 59 - 62 Same liner types as Medium Shell, availability depends on helmet model.
Often, you only need a new liner Because the shell covers a wide range of liner sizes, many riders - and growing children - can simply move up to the next liner size within the same shell, without replacing the entire helmet.

How to check if your helmet fits correctly

A helmet that does not fit properly cannot protect as it should. Here is what to look for.

Too small

Feels tight or causes pressure points. May not sit correctly on the head or provide full coverage at the back and sides.

Too large

Shifts or moves while riding or during a fall. Reduced stability means reduced protection.

Quick fit test Put on the helmet and fasten the chin strap. Gently shake your head in all directions. If the helmet stays firmly in place without pressing uncomfortably, you have the right size.

For pressure-point guidance specific to the KEP liner system, see KEP Italia Liners Explained.

How to measure your head size

Measure around the widest part of your head - above the ears and approximately 2 to 2.5 cm above the eyebrows. Use a flexible tape measure and take the measurement in centimetres.

1Place the tape measure just above your ears and about 2-2.5 cm above your eyebrows.
2Keep the tape level all the way around and note the measurement in centimetres.
3If you are between sizes, KEP helmets tend to run slightly larger - size down when in doubt.
4Match your measurement to the liner size. The liner size is the number that corresponds directly to your head circumference in centimetres.

Oval or Oval Narrow?

In addition to size, KEP Italia liners come in two head shapes. Choosing the right shape is just as important as choosing the right size - it affects how the helmet sits and whether pressure points develop over time.

Oval

Slightly wider across the sides. Typically suited to riders in Europe.

Oval Narrow

Narrower across the sides. Typically suited to riders in North America and Canada.
